The District Training Team

The County’s Local Training Manager for Southend Estuary is Valerie Hagan. Training is County Based so you will need to register and book training through the Essex County Training Pages, county-based in Essex is free of charge to members within Essex. 

District Training Advisors

A key role in the adult training programme is that of the Training Advisor.   A Training Advisor (TA) supports up to a maximum of four people going through their training (although in practise it is likely to be one person at a time). The role is carried out in addition to normal Scouting commitments, with the appointment added to their appointments card.

Training Adviser for Managers and Supporters

Derek Hagan is responsible for supporting and assessing learners in Manager and Supporter roles through their leadership and management training up to the award of the Wood Badge, the training for these rolls is done at national level.

Validation Clinic

To allow adults in scouting to validate their training in a relaxed setting over a cuppa and biscuits, take a look in the county  calendar to find the next date. The training optional you may not need it, validation is essential to gain your woodbadge.

Training Advisor are still avable to validate out side of the Validation Clinic email Valerie Hagan if you would like a Training Advisor to meet with you.

Safety and Safeguarding Training

All adults in Scouting who are subject to an appointment review are required to complete approved safety and safeguarding training at least every five years (POR Appointments 5.d).

Ongoing training is available from County/Area/Region training teams or as an online alternative.

Scout Summer Badge Weekend 2019
Jul 6 – Jul 7 all-day

Scouts can attend with or without their leaders and take part in Master at Arms Rifle Shooting, Climber, Survival Skills, Pioneer, DIY or Chef.

6th to 7th July 2019
Open to Scouts and their leaders

£29pp / 1 leader free with every 6 young people

Pioneering Weekend 2019
Jul 13 – Jul 14 all-day

A course for Explorer Scouts (great for young leaders), Network and leaders (counts as ongoing learning). Learn a range of knots and lashings and pioneering projects from beginners through to intermediate. Tuition for mini pioneering. The beginner’s projects are great for getting Scouts started and enjoying pioneering. Includes course material, Saturday lunch, dinner and Sunday breakfast and lunch.

13th to 14th July 2019 Open to Scouts, Guides and The Senior Section.

CAB Week 2019
Aug 3 – Aug 10 all-day

A week-long camp with a ’mini-jamboree’ feel. Over 20 activities including Quad Bikes, Archery, Climbing and an optional day out.
It’s A Knockout, incident hike, fancy dress day, disco and more.

3rd to 10th August

Open to Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network, Brownies, Guides, Rangers
£75pp / £28 per leader / Extra fee for day out
